False Rape Claim Against Soldier Lands UK Girl 5-Year Prison Sentence

When 26-year-old Rebecca Palmer of Royal Wootton Bassett found the soldier of her dreams, he didn't reciprocate her feelings. As an act of revenge, Palmer decided she would accuse the 22-year-old soldier of rape prompting the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to investigate.

The CPS found that Palmer "indulged in consensual sexual activity" with the soldier who wanted a relationship with but decided to launch a "malicious campaign" against him after he turned her plea for a relationship down.

Palmer was found guilty of four counts of perverting the course of justice, five counts of malicious communications and an additional three counts of perverting the course of public justice.

The chief crown prosecutor in the case, Joanne Jakymec, said the woman sent "malicious communications" to the soldier and his family as well as "repeatedly made false allegations" including accusing the 22-year-old soldier of rape. On top of this terrible behavoir, Jakymec said Palmer "invented fake friend profiles and produced false correspondence hoping that these would be accepted as supportive evidence of her false claims."

A spokesperson for the Wiltshire Police added, "Palmer became completely embroiled in her own web of lies and her appalling behavior could really have a negative impact on other victims of rape or sexual assault who may choose not to report it to police for fear that they will not be believed."
