Putin And Trump To Talk Over The Phone This Weekend

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are planning to hold their first official telephone conversation together during the weekend.

The two men are to hold telephone talks following Trump’s inauguration, the talks will be held this Saturday with the sole objective of improving the US and Russia’s relations which have continuously worsened towards the end of Obama’s presidency.

There’s a probability that the first conversation between the two leaders will revolve around discussions about combatting terror. As reported by White House aide, US is considering lifting sanctions against Russia.

Politicians and diplomats in many parts of the world will be watching the call with unease since Trump has been positive about Russia and this might threaten to disrupt the western consensus of keeping pressure on Moscow over its intervention in Ukraine.

Several US senators, some of whom are in the Republican party, have also expresses their deep concerns about the prospect of a major rapprochement with Moscow.

In a report issued by Sputnik, Russian President Vladimir Putin plan to hold talks with US President Donald Trump over the weekend, an NBC White House correspondent reports.

In a tweet made by Hallie Jackson, Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump are expected to talk by phone this weekend, as he cited an administration sources, adding that it was the first call since inauguration.

Dmitry Peskov, who is the Kremlin spokesman reported that the date of a first phone call between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump since the inauguration had not yet been determined yet.

In a statement made last week, Peskov made it clear that a meeting between Putin and Trump was unlikely to happen in the incoming weeks as the US president was focusing on domestic issues, adding that in the coming months, there was a probability of the meeting taking place.

The Kremlin spokesman also made it clear that the date of the meeting between the Russian and the US leaders will likely be discussed during a phone conversation between President Donald Trump and President Putin.
