Cruel Breeders Behind Abandoned Bear-Dog

People online are debating the lineage of an abandoned animal that looks like a bear. Pet experts are saying the stray dog was discovered to have been bred deliberately to look like a brown bear.

The sad and distressed dog was created to appeal to buyers at a market when it was a puppy, now that he has grown up he was rejected by its owners for being aggressive. The finders of the abandoned dog say it is in "serious stress" and they are having difficulty getting the animal to eat.

Pet experts think it may take several months to rehabilitate the dog adding that its behavior had worsened by cruel treatment when it was abandoned in the street.

Polina Kefer, who runs animal sanctuary Nash Dom in Russia, said "this dog is under serious stress. We are looking for some really experienced carers for him, but have not found them yet. This dog is a ‘badly-made’ Chow Chow … by those pet markets where irresponsible breeders sell pets pretending that they are a pure breed."

Kefer went on to say, "People buy such puppies and once they grow into something like this dog, they just throw them out like a broken toy." The dog's "distinctive blue tongue" is a hit that the animal is part Chow Chow and is originally from Northern China. The breed is known as a "puffy lion dog" which has likely been crossed with a "long-nosed" stray.

The animal has been nicknamed "Medvebaka" which is Russian for bear and dog. "Sadly the dog is so stressed it fights and bites back," Kefer said. "We think it might take months to socialize him."
