#OhioWX - Icy Weather Closes Ohio Schools

A mix of freezing rain, sleet, and light snow caused central Ohio to send out some fun news to local children who saw their classes closed for the first day of the week. Some sidewalks were left looking like skating rinks Monday morning. Driving can be treacherous, and the list of school districts canceling classes is growing ever longer.

Columbus police told drivers they would not respond to any non-injury accidents this morning and urged drivers to stay off the roads as freezing rain moved into the state.

Columbus City Schools canceled classes as well as many other central Ohio districts schools: Bexley, Dublin, Gahanna, Grandview, Hilliard, Marysville, New Albany, Olentangy, South-Western, Westerville, Whitehall, Worthington and Upper Arlington.

Meanwhile, Pike County even issues a Level 3 emergency, meaning that “All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.”
