Incidents involving child pornography have been on the rise recently. Such a case was reported involving a 60-year-old Liberty man who was sentenced to eight years in federal prison without parole for attempting to distribute child pornography over the internet.
The heinous crime was conducted by Mark Anthony Barrett, who was sentenced on Friday. Barrett will first serve his prison term and serve 15 years of supervised release. He’s also expected to pay $5,000 to one of the victims in his collection of child pornography, or $3,000 if it's paid within 30 days.
This is after Barrett pleaded guilty in October 2017 to attempting to distribute child pornography over the internet. The man also revealed that he used peer-to-peer file-sharing software to download child pornography and made it available to his accomplices.
According to investigators, a total of 272 images and 76 video files of child pornography were found on a hard drive from Barrett's computer. Investigators revealed that majority of the images appeared to be young girls and toddlers being sexually abused.
