Syria Strikes - Russia, Iran Vow To Respond

The Foreign Ministry of Iran has vowed to respond to airstrikes against the Syrian Regime conducted by the U.S. and several allies. Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attacks on Syria and was adamant that Washington and its allies would face the consequences of the raid's in the region and beyond, according to Iranian state media. Russia and Iran are two of Syrian government's biggest allies.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said through state media, "Undoubtedly, the United States and its allies, which took military action against Syria despite the absence of any proven evidence … will assume the responsibility for the regional and trans-regional consequences of this adventurism."

Russia also weighed in on the attacks against the Syrian Regime and condemned the U.S. and its allies for the raids. Russia's chairman of international affairs committee of the upper house of parliament, Konstantin Kosachev, called the airstrikes a groundless attack on a sovereign government. The Russian ambassador to the U.S., Anatoly Antonov, said, "such actions will not be left without consequences" and called the attacks a threat to Moscow. Antonov added, "Insulting the president of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissible."

Russian media is reporting the head of its Foreign Affairs Committee suggested the U.S.-led attacks are "highly likely" to be an attempt to disrupt the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) investigation into the use of chemical weapons in Douma. The Syrian government said they have absorbed the U.S.-led attack and the targeted sites were already evacuated thanks to an early warning from Russia.
