Dawn Hilton-Williams, a South Carolina woman, said being pulled over for speeding by a “white cop” was a “traumatic experience”.
On a Facebook Live video on April 27, she accused a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office sergeant of racism following being ordered to sign a summons asking her to appear in court or pre-pay a traffic ticket. The officer said he clocked her going 70mph in a 55mph limit.
“It doesn’t matter how polite you are, it’s all sick, crazy bullying and the police are ridiculous,” Hilton-Williams says in the 11-minute video.

Hilton-Williams’ story is now being questioned after police body camera footage from the incident showed a completely different version than the “bullying” version she shared all over Facebook.
In the video footage released Monday by the sheriff’s office, when the officer handed Hilton-Williams the summons she started questioning the officer about where the signs were that say the area has a 55 mph limit.
“You didn’t give me a warning, you gave me an actual ticket?” she asks the officer.
“Yeah, no warnings today ma’am,” he responds.
Hilton-Williams refuses to sign the summons.
“What you are signing here is a promise to come to court or a promise to pre-pay. It’s not an admission of guilt. It’s only a promise to me that you’re gonna get it taken care of by either coming to court or pre-paying it,” the officer tells her. “If you refuse to sign the summons, at this point, I’m going to have to get you outside of this car, I’m going to place you under arrest and take you in front of a magistrate. I will get your vehicle towed and go from there.”
Hilton-Williams interrupts the officer and says someone is on her phone.
“You do not have a choice but to sign this summons,” he says, ignoring the apparent distraction. “So once again you’re signing right there so thank you, I knew you were going to sign it. Thank you very much.”
<div style="width:100%;text-align:center;margin:0 auto;"><iframe width="360" height="202" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qPr4knh-YfE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
Hilton-Williams drove off and took to Facebook Live to give her version by calling the officer a bully. He was doing his job. He was not bullying her.
“I have had a traumatic experience and I want the people who are not African-American who know me to really get where we are coming from,” she says. “When I saw the police pull up behind me, the state trooper, I was immediately afraid.”
“This is the area I’m in,” she said, panning the camera around to show the area. “In the middle of, this kind of stuff. This is where I am, so it’s not like I’m not afraid, because this is where we got lynched.”
She added: “Do any of my white friends…feel like that when they get pulled over?… Are they afraid that they are never going to come home or see anybody else because police are at the door saying [I’m going] to pull you out of the car? Why do only African Americans and people of color know what I’m going through right now?”
Hilton-Williams concludes with “when you’re African American and you get pulled out of the car you get shot, or you get tased, or you get Sandra Bland if you are a woman.”

The video was widely-shared online, and Brunswick County Sheriff Brian Roberts told WVTR that he looked into the matter after receiving dozens of calls.
“I don’t know what she has been through and I don’t know her life history, what I worry about is this kind of thing will inflame situations where you see cops in other states have been executed while they were just eating lunch,” he said.
Roberts included that he reviewed the footage of the incident and his officer did nothing wrong.
“This video here, there are things I could go over and critique the officer on, it’s not racial things, it’s not hate things. Certainly some etiquette or verbal judo that could be fixed and improved upon,” he told WTVR. “What’s ultimately going to be accomplished, it’s not going to make the ticket go away, it’s not going to solve anything. It’s only causing more problems.”
It infuriates me that she said she could “get [Sandra Bland] if you are a woman”. Sandra Bland refused to listen to orders. People disobey the law and are then shocked when they are arrested. Sandra Bland was in jail calling everyone she knew to get someone to bail her out. No one did. Sadly, she took her life. This was not the fault of anyone aside from Bland herself.
Obey the law, it’s that simple!

We should never be afraid of our police offers who are here to protect and serve us. "When taking an oath to serve and protect, police officers promise to preserve the dignity and respect the rights of all individuals, and to act with honesty, courtesy and regard for the welfare of others. … But this oath requires officers to serve and protect, even when their heart isn't necessarily in it."
What a crock, she didn’t get treated any differently than anyone else does. I am tired of people like this, trying to cause racial tension when it didn’t exist. Probably a Democrat.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Awwww…. She needs a safe space.
Lying sack of 💩
What YOU should've done was obey the law. Dip💩!
This women is a disgrace to people of color! Any one agreeing with this lady should be ashamed using her skin color to cry racisim. No intellagence in her brainless head now you see who the real racisit is. Blacks should be outrage at her for breaking the law an then claiming racisism wish i was treated that well when i break the law an put innocent victims around me lives in danger doing 15 mph over speed limit. Speak up people of color she is giving you a bad name crying like she 2yrs old after doing a crime an getting caught. What a pure dumbass racisit bitch.
When something happens you don't like scream "racism." Liberals keep saying that racism is taught, I agree. People learn it through experiences and lessons passed down by others. Thars why I find it so interesting that she brought up Sandy Bland… Obviously, she was taught to be a racist.
I see the Obama/Liberal idea of placing Body Cams on all Police officers, in hopes of catching the few ( .0001% of 1%) over the top Police actions sure has BACKFIRED on the Liberals.
It seems the Body Cams are catching more Lying , whining Suspects and are actually clearly up the image of the Police quickly in a vast majority of such situations. With the Body Cams, now there is no longer the old Police said, Suspect said Media loving debates. The False Physical force and racial accusations are exposed quickly quickly killing Media Hype and Ad-Click revenues. Now we need the Justice system to start arresting those that make clearly false and RIOT Level inciteful statements. And/Or Police Officers should have the right to sue in court for professional slander.
She should be arrested now for trying to start a race riot. I wonder how many times this has happened before body cams? People like her are not needed in this country!
Yet again, a person of color crying racism, lieing, looking for sympathy and only damaging race relations for nothing. Sad part is, she's probably too stupid to realize the damage she is causing. Grow up !!!
Lexy, you've done it again. You fucked up yet another story with your monkey-brain inability to construct a coherent sentence…
