In response to a New York lawyer's racist rant that went viral, members of the Latino community carried out a block party in front of the man's apartment. The rant took place at the Fresh Kitchen on Madison Avenue near East 39th Street on Tuesday. In the video, Attorney Aaron Schlossberg yells at employees of the restaurant for speaking in Spanish.

Schlossberg threatened to call immigration officers to have them "kicked out of my country" in the minute-long video. "Every person I listen to — he spoke [Spanish], he spoke it, she’s speaking it — it’s America," Schlossberg said. "My guess is they’re not documented, so my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country. If they have the balls to come here and live off of my money — I pay for their welfare, I pay for their ability to be here — the least they can do is speak English. If you intend on running a place in Midtown Manhattan, the staff should be speaking English, not Spanish!"
A Twitter user named Sean King who calls himself an "activist" called attention to the video and encouraged Twitter users to find out who the man is. King later "doxxed" the lawyer in the video which is essentially exposing someone's personal identity on the internet. Schlossberg may be a bigot but last time I checked in America we have free speech and doxxing is a crime. The negative media attention shot Schlossberg into the limelight and he was soon inundated which reporters attempting to interview him.

When Mexican American Luis Magaña found out about the video he wanted to host a "Latin party" and created an event on Facebook that said:
<i>"Assuming all Spanish speakers are undocumented is not only ignorant but a little sad. It’s also a little sad that Mr. Schlossberg thinks all Hispanics are on Welfare. However, Hispanics are not sad people and we will gladly educate you on our culture and language by throwing a big fiesta."</i>
More people quickly joined the group and more organizers such as Moumita Ahmed became involved. Ahmed said, "It’s a decentralized effort – everyone is bringing their own flavor. It’s a party, so we’re going to have music; I’m making a playlist right now. Jade Sixty are providing tacos, in solidarity with the food industry workers he was shouting at. There’s a Jarritos truck coming. We have lots of immigrant groups and participating. We’re doing the promoting but in terms of the program we’re really letting the people bring the culture."
