World Cup - Russians Go Nuts As Team Progresses To Next Round (Video)

The Russians had a reason to celebrate after their team beat Egypt with a resounding 3-1 victory, leaving the top of the group with 6 points after two games and an 8-1 goal difference.

The result means that unless Saudi Arabia wins it last two matches and the Russians lose by a 7 goal margin to Uruguay, both conditions which seem unlikely, they will progress to the next round, the knock-out stages of the tournament, for the first time since 1990, where they will likely face Spain or Portugal.

The chants of Russia, Russia, Russia could be heard all over squares and city centers as people partied through the night. The two successive wins with huge goal differences are much more than what most people expected of their team, which is ranked only 70th on the Fifa global ranking.

The resounding victories are filling the Russians with national pride and it is expected the viewership figures for the team will only grow as from this point.

Russia had a tough match against the Egyptians in the first half but thanks to an own-goal by the Egyptian captain in the first minutes after the break, they were able to build a 3-0 lead, after which the Egyptian star player Mo Salah was able to score a goal on a penalty.

The expected result today in their group is that Uruguay beats Saudi Arabia and then Russia and the Uruguayans can decide amongst themselves on the last playing day of the group stages who finishes first in the pole.
