Twitter seems to be penalizing certain users for referring to the importance of voter identification to ensure that our democracy isn't tampered with. Considering all the talk regarding Russian bots in light of a few Twitter accounts, Facebook pages and a few ads, you would think that ensuring democracy isn't hacked would be important. At least a couple of Twitter users with large followings found themselves locked out of their account shortly before election time. The tweets in question didn't violate Twitter terms of service but do mention the importance of Voter ID laws.

In the case of Jack Murphy, he had to delete the "offensive tweet" before he could use Twitter again. Murphy is @RealJack at Twitter and has a fairly large following, nearly 1/4 million. And what was so offensive? "Hey @TheDemocrats, Don't let Russia interfere in 2020! #DemandVoterID." Apologies to anyone who was seriously offended by such crude and inappropriate language.

Murphy was not the only one, however, often the tweets in question referred to Voter ID sometimes mentioning Russian intervention as well.

Voter ID laws are often smeared as racist despite the fact that photo ID is required to watch an R-rated movie, buy cigarettes, drink alcohol, rent a hotel room, board an airplane and numerous other every day tasks. An argument against them is that they can be confusing and sometimes rules are changed close to polling time. Always check with your local laws and keep your voter registration up to date to prevent yourself from being turned away at the voting booth regardless of the local ordinances.
