A man arrested by authorities took a Florida deputy’s stun gun and in response, was shot and killed by another law enforcement officer.
The man was found with drug paraphernalia in the Deltona store’s bathroom by deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said body camera video showed that the man resisted arrest Thursday afternoon at the said gas station convenience store. During the attempted arrest, the man forcibly grabbed a deputy’s stun gun. In quick response, another deputy shot the man leading to his death.
The police have yet to release the man’s identity. Chitwood shared, however, that the deputy who fired his gun in response to the situation was placed on paid administrative leave.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement promised to investigate. One of the things the probe will likely establish is if there were any abuses or excesses in the police’s handling of the incident, and of the fatal shooting of the man.
