Investigators in St. Petersburg Florida says that as a direct result of several months of physical abuse, a 5-year-old now has severe organ damage.
Police say that they arrested 41-year-old John Gerald Whelan for aggravated child abuse or the minor child. St. Pete Police, Fire and Rescue responded to a residence after receiving a call about a child having life threatening medical issues.
After he was later transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Doctors and emergency responders said that the child had severe bruising and trauma to the face, his ribs were fractured, and he was suffering from. internal bleeding as a direct result of damage to his internal organs.
Officers from the St. Petersburg police department say that the innocent child remains in critical condition.
Detectives said that Whelan had struck the boy repeatedly in the head and stomach with his closed first in a brutal and savage assault on a sweet child.
According to an official media release, the abuse occurred daily for “several months” and he didn’t seek medical attention for the boy.
