Woman Gave Birth In McDonald's Bathroom And Drowned Baby In Toilet Could Get Life In Prison

A woman in Redwood City has been charged with delivering a baby boy inside the bathroom of a McDonald's and trying to drown the baby boy in the toilet. Sarah Lockner, 25, works at the McDonald's where she gave birth and co-workers said they observed her complaining of stomach pains and was spending a lot of time in the bathroom according to Steve Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County District Attorney.

When one of her co-workers went into the bathroom to check on her they observed blood on the floor. Lockner tried to say she was just having a heavy menstrual cycle but when a second co-worker went in and looked over the wall of the bathroom stall she observed Lockner trying to drown the baby face-first inside the toilet water. Lockner urged her co-workers not to tell the police but they informed their boss who called them anyway. When the paramedics arrived the baby was revived and put into a coma after being brought to the hospital according to Wagstaffe.

The baby boy has recovered enough to be removed from life support but it is still unclear if the baby suffered any brain damage. Child Protective Services is working to determine if there is a family member that can take the baby boy. Lockner is being charged with attempted murder causing great bodily injury and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury. The charges could put Lockner away for life in prison if she is convicted. She was appointed a public defender and sits in jail on an $11 million bail while she awaits a September 18th court date.
