Arizona Border Patrol Involved in Shootout Near Yuma Sector

According to the United States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector were dispatched around 3 AM to an Assistance Call from the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office.

Once the Border Patrol Agents arrived to the 3100 block of Main Street in Quartzsite, Arizona, there was reports of a suspect who had fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Law enforcement say the man was armed with a submachine gun and had fired several rounds at officers but fortunately missed.

Border Patrol Agents were able to locate the vehicle and the suspect near Dome Rock Road, when the suspect began to fire on the Federal Agents before diving out of the vehicle and commandeering a semi-truck which was parked on the side of the road with the drivers sleeping.

Agents then gave chase to that vehicle, dodging bullets as the suspect was firing out of the driver's window during the pursuit.

Eventually the suspect crashed at a nearby gas station, where he tried jumping out of the car and shooting at the Agents forcing them to return fire striking the criminal leading to him having serious injuries.

The suspect was later transported to a nearby medical center but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities say no members of law enforcement or Border Patrol Agents were injured in the shootout.
