20-year-old Dante Tyrell Ford pled guilty on Wednesday to second-degree murder and felony firearms violations after he killed a 17-year-old boy in a dispute over Air Jordan shoes. Ford and the victim met up so Ford could buy a pair of Air Jordan shoes but he ended up fatally shooting Corey Harris-Thomas and injuring another man while they sat inside their car.

According to police, Harris-Thomas and his 24-year-old friend arranged to meet with Ford at 1:30 p.m. on June 6 so Harris-Thomas could sell Ford the coveted Air Jordans. Authorities say Ford got inside of Harris-Thomas' SUV and the three men drove around for two blocks near Fenkel Avenue and Pinehurst Street. That is when officials say Ford pulled out a handgun prompting the 24-year-old passenger to do the same. Police say the two men were wrestling over the guns when Ford fired a single shot hitting the 24-year-old in the arm. The 24-year-old then fired his own weapon and Ford traded shots with him which is when 17-year-old Harris-Thomas was fatally struck.

Police say Harris-Thomas then fell out of the moving SUV causing it to crash into a fence at Fenkell and Pinehurst. Ford reportedly suffered a gunshot wound himself but fled the scene. The 24-year-old passenger who was struck in the arm called police and remained at the scene until officers arrived at 1:43 p.m. Harris-Thomas body was found in the street and medical officials pronounced him dead at the scene. The preliminary hearing has already taken place, when the defense attorney asked why Harris-Thomas asked the witness to come with him to the sale this is what he said:

Ford was also charged in a separate robbery incident when a 16-year-old boy advertised online that he was selling a pair of his Air Jordan shoes for $160 Ford showed up and took the shoes from the boy and brandished his handgun. The victim of the robbery said Ford told him, "pull off before I spark this b****."
