Conchita used to be a man, had changed her appearance to look like a woman but kept her beard, making for a very unusual appearance. After her win she became the spokesperson for a whole group of transsexuals in Europe.
However, four years later Conchita has admitted it was all done in a lot of haste and she/he will now go back to being a man.

The Rise Like a Phoenix singer now doesn’t put on make-up anymore, has shorter hair and has ditched the dresses and any other clothes that women usually wear. Conchita has also started fitness training which has boosted her/his arm muscles.
“I started three years ago. After I had won the Song Fesitval I lived for a year in planes and I noticed wat unhealthy eating does to your body. I couldn’t go on like this.”
“Fitness training was very hard in the beginning, but now I can’t do without it anymore. And thus my body has changed quite a lot.”
