French media was glad to report today that after years of speculation, the murder on one of its richest citizens, Monaco resident and billionaire Hélène Pastor, had been solved after her Polish son-in-law confessed to ordering a ‘hit’ to have his stepmother killed.
On the last day before the verdict was due, Mr Wojciech Janowski, who is on trial together with nine others finally made the shocking admission.

The 2014 shooting of billionaire property heiress Ms Pastor and her chauffeur in the southern French city of Nice shook the principality of Monaco, where she was a friend of the royal family known as the Grimaldis.
During the 1930s, the Pastor family started buying up properties in the princedom Monaco, where the rich and famous would go for their holidays. By 1966 Prince Rainier gave patriarch Mr Gildo Pastor permission to build high-rise properties along the seafront, the first skyscrapers that you now see everywhere around the Mediterranean sea.
Instead of selling the properties, the family Pastor rented them out and became famously wealthy.

Hélène Pastor was the last of Gildo's three children and has amassed a fortune estimated at between €12 billion and more than €20 billion. She controlled some 15% of Monaco's housing stock.
Among her favorite pastimes was driving around Monaco in a London taxi, according to Paris Match magazine. And thus it was with great shock that France discovered that she was killed in a mafia-style shooting in broad daylight while driving around with her chauffeur.
The alleged contract for the murder was worth €140,000, police said.

Hélène Pastor provided her son and daughter with a monthly stipend of €500,000, but this would have dried up if her daughter had died. As his suffered of cancer at the time, her polish son in law was afraid he would be cut off if she would die and thus took out a mafia hit on his stepmother.

His lawyer Mr Éric Dupond-Moretti admitted to the Aix-en-Provence court that his client "is guilty of ordering Hélène Pastor's murder."
"These words which you wanted to hear from him come from my mouth. He tried to say these words, he wanted to say them but he couldn't," he said while Mr Janowski was crying beside him.
