EDIT: Shinzo Abe has been announced dead.
Shinzo Abe has been rushed to the hospital after being shot twice in the back with a shotgun. His condition is currently uncertain but it is reported in addition to two wounds from the shotgun blast he suffered a heart attack. The assailant has been arrested, but this is a rather unusual turn of events for a country that, with a few notable exceptions such as Aum Shinrikyo sarin gas attacks, is generally free of violent crime and domestic terrorism.
