Tim Walz, the man who managed to lose in spectacular fashion as Kamala Harris’s running mate in 2024, is now toying with the idea of running for president in 2028. Yes, seriously. Despite being one half of one of the most disastrous Democratic tickets in modern history, Walz seems to think he’s still politically relevant. The reality? No chance in hell.
On the "New Yorker Radio Hour," Walz coyly entertained the idea of a White House bid, saying, “If I think I could offer something… I would certainly consider that.” The sheer arrogance is stunning. What exactly does he think he offers? The ability to lose elections? The political instincts that led him to hitch his wagon to Kamala Harris—a historically unpopular VP?
Walz then gave one of those canned, pseudo-humble remarks that politicians love to use when they’re pretending to be reluctant warriors: “I’m also, though, not arrogant enough to believe there’s a lot of people that can do this.” Wrong. There are plenty of people who could run—and do it better than a guy who couldn’t even help his ticket carry Minnesota.
His claim that his “life prepared him well” for this? Let’s review. Walz’s 2024 campaign was riddled with embarrassing missteps, including repeatedly misleading the public about his military service. His stories about his time in uniform kept shifting, and let’s not forget the infamous false claim that he was in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square Massacre—when he was, in fact, nowhere near it. How does one even accidentally make that mistake?
And then there’s the China connection. During the campaign, Walz faced scrutiny over his ties to China, something that only worsened his already weak national profile. Given the American electorate’s increasing skepticism toward China, that’s not exactly the kind of baggage you want to carry into a presidential run.
To make things even more laughable, Walz could end up running against his own former running mate, Kamala Harris. Yes, the same Harris who already proved unelectable at the top of the ticket. Imagine watching those two fight it out in the primaries—two failed candidates desperately trying to convince a skeptical public that this time they deserve a shot.
Let’s be real: Tim Walz is not going to be the Democratic nominee in 2028. He isn’t even in the conversation. If anything, this “maybe I’ll run” nonsense is just a sad attempt to stay relevant after being thrown onto the trash heap of political history.
