One of the most telling stories of Greek mythology is that of Oedipus, the son of the king of Thebes, which involved a three-way sexual relationship between a mother and child.
Oedipus’s wife and mother hanged herself when the truth of their relationship became known, though Oedipus apparently continued to rule at Thebes until his death.
Freud, the founder of modern-day psychology, when writing his famous “sexual dreams” explanation, referred to the case of Oedipus when he explained said that mothers in a sexless relationship often develop a knack for the younger boyfriends of their daughters at a certain point.
The lawyer of Ms. Claudia Yaneth Lopez, therefore, better do some reading up on his classic Greek as her prepares the defense of this Texas mother who was arrested last week for bedding the minor boyfriend of her teenage daughter.
The case came to light when the mother of the boy went through his phone and found a suggestive text message from the mother of his girlfriend. Dumbfounded she confronted her son who indeed confessed to having had sex with Ms. Claudia Lopez, 44 years old, while his girlfriend was at the mall with her friends.
Just last month, police officers took the boy to the Children's Advocacy Center for a forensic interview and further questioning.
The boy was 17 years old at the time of the sexual encounter, putting Ms. Lopez at risk of going to jail for the next 20 years.
It is unknown whether daughter and mother had any contact since her arrest. In any case, given that they are both Hispanic, we would assume this should become an event not to be missed.
Ms. Lopez remains in the Hidalgo County jail and couldn't be reached for comment on the story.
