Mr. Randy Zwetz, owner of Randy's Pepper Pizza Challenge at Pizza for Life in Benton claims that he has made the hottest pizza ever and is asking you to try it for yourself.
"Providing something that nobody serves is something that some people really enjoy, I wanted to make the hottest pizza that anybody's ever had," Mr. Zwetz said.
The challenge exists in finishing a medium pizza which is packed with all sorts of peppers: ghost peppers, Serrano peppers, Trinidad scorpions and Carolina reapers amongst many others.
"We put 24 peppers in the sauce. I had to actually send some of the sauce off and I haven't gotten those results yet, but we're thinking it's somewhere around 4 million scovilles."
That is indeed quite hot, as a jalapeno is anywhere between 3,500 and 10,000 Scovilles.
Mr. Zwetz claims that if you can finish the whole medium pizza, you'll get it for free and be rewarded with a t-shirt and another free pizza to wash down the burn.
"You also get your picture taken and put it on the wall. But we don't have a wall yet because nobody has beat the pizza."
In a way, it reminded me of an old Simpsons clip in which Homer is the local sheriff in town at a chili contest. With his own wooden spoon, he tastes all the chili to see if they are indeed as hot as the makers say they are, but in the four years ever since he’s been coming no one has been able to make a chili hot enough for Homer to resist. That is until police chief Wiggum makes one.
I’ll let you enjoy it if you haven’t seen it yet.
