German police seized a metric ton of crystalline powder used to make the hallucinogenic substance DMT. Police announced Thursday they seized the drug in the German town of Gummersbach near Cologne.

German police confirmed the find was the largest seizure of its kind in Germany ever. The crystalline powder is not processed but is found in this raw form by extracting it from various rare plants and barks.
Producers of the hallucinogenic drug extract the substance as either the crystalline powder found by the German authorities or as a tarry substance. When the raw extract is processed, it can be smoked, injected or snorted.
Similar drugs such as LSD have been used in recent studies and even approved for use in treating symptoms such as PTSD but DMT is a significantly more potent hallucinogenic.
German police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the drugs but details surrounding the bust are unclear.
