Long-time Fox News contributer Judge Andrew Napolitano has been “benched” by the network after claiming that the British foreign surveillance agency GCHQ helped President Barack Obama wiretap Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump put the spotlight on Napolitano after responding to relentless questions from the media regarding a Tweet the President made claiming the Obama Administration wire-tapped Trump Tower.
The GCHQ denied Napolitano’s claims , calling them “utterly ridiculous.” CNN has described the allegations against the British as “an international crisis.”
Napolitano was nowhere to be seen on Fox during their coverage of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation hearings, leading many to believe he had been fired. Heavy.com, however, is reporting that the commentator was “benched.”
Napolitano’s quote that set of the firestorm: “He didn’t use the NSA, he didn’t use the CIA, he didn’t use the FBI and he didn’t use the Department of Justice. He used GCHQ [Government Communications Headquarters].”This led to a quick denial from GCHQ, but their response was void of whether or not the intelligence agency was aware of surveillance of Trump and his campaign staff.
As of the posting of this article, there is no mention of Napolitanos employment status at the network.
