Democrats in The House of Representatives have introduced a horrendous bill which intends to ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons in all fifty states.
In today's episode of "How to trample on the Constitution," Representative David Cicilline (D-RI) introduced the legislation, titled the "Assault Weapons Ban of 2018," with an announcement via his website.
"Assault weapons were made for one purpose. They are designed to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time. They do not belong in our communities," said Representative Cicilline. "I am proud to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban with the support of leaders in law enforcement. It's on all of us to end this carnage."
I don't think Cicilline understands that there is no such thing as an "assault weapon" in the first place.
When a terrorist detonates a bomb, is it called an "assault bomb"? Bombs are already banned. When a drunk driver crashes into a family and kills them, go we call it an "assault vehicle"? Do we ban cars? Heroin kills more people annually than firearms, is it called "assault heroin"? Heroin is also already illegal.
"Americans don't own tanks or missiles; so why should our streets be flooded with weapons of war made for the sole purpose of killing people? The Stoneman Douglas community is still reeling from this awful tragedy. But they want and deserve action from Congress," said Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22). "Banning assault weapons isn't a Democratic idea, nor is it new; President Reagan supported the initial ban, which expired in 2004. Most Americans support the assault weapons ban. Now it's time for Congress to listen and pass sensible legislation to get these weapons of war off our streets."
The Constitution clearly states that the Second Amendment <i>shall not be infringed</i> thus rendering this bill Unconstitutional.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2018 will prohibit the sale, transfer, production, and importation of multiple firearms.
Included in the ban are semi-automatic rifles and pistols with a military-style feature that can accept a detachable magazine; semi-automatic rifles with a fixed magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds; semi-automatic shotguns with a military-style feature; any ammunition feeding device that can hold more than 10 rounds; and 205 specifically-named and listed firearms.
The bill continues to suggest that any rifle which has a folding, detachable, or telescopic stock will be banned.
All AR type firearms will be banned, including the AR-15, and numerous other variants. This is what's going to cause a literal riot amongst gun owners as a result, if it were so much as attempted to be enacted.

Cicilline's website goes on to state, "When an assault weapon or a high-capacity magazine is used in a shooting, the number of victims who are killed increases by 63%. There have been almost 8,300 incidents of gun violence so far in 2018. More than 2,200 Americans have lost their lives. More than 500 children have been killed or injured."
These numbers are such a tiny fraction of the 323 million people in the United States of America that it seems irrationally tyrannical to try and strip the 99.9% of Americans who weren't affected by the gun violence of their rights based upon the actions of a select few criminals.
There's no delegitimizing the fact that innocent people do lose their lives, and no downplaying of the senseless carnage committed by criminals either, however, banning semi-automatic weapons will in no way prevent those with an intent to kill from doing so.
A bomb can be built for less than $50. A vehicle can be used to plow into a crowd of people. The ban on firearms holding more than ten rounds in their magazine is also silly, considering ten people can still be killed with those rounds, if fired accurately, and more of the clip is replaced.
Several GOP Congressional members of both the House and the Senate have since said they'd support legislation to somehow limit the Second Amendment as a result of the Parkland tragedy, although those doing so are quickly going to be painted as targets for midterms and primaries to be voted out of office.

It remains to be seen what type of support will come from this particular piece of legislation outside of the alleged 150 colleagues that Rep. Ted Deutch claims to have since this appears to be a blanket ban on numerous weapons that are idolized and loved by law-abiding citizens across the country.
What it essentially boils down to, is that the Democratic Party, and clearly the GOP members such as Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) have little to no understanding of firearms, how they work, or why they're important.

The majority of those making such claims likely have private security and have never fired a gun in the first place.
Traditional values Americans and Conservatives alike understand the need for common sense gun reform, such as arming teachers.
It's crucial that the right to bear arms is protected and that were willing to give those teachers the training to save their children's lives if they're ever put in a situation where they're having to defend themselves and their classrooms.
While we hope it doesn't happen, doing so would be a fighting chance at protecting the children. Combined with adding armed security into the schools, if not hiring Veterans, we could save lives.

As a result of the left's attempts to tyrannize law-abiding citizens, Americans have joined the National Rifle Association in record-numbers.
Firearms sales are reported to be also soaring in record numbers.

In reality, Americans want to keep their children safe, especially Trump supporters and Republicans, but they understand that doing so with a firearm is the only means of stopping a would-be killer.
Parkland was a travesty, but it's the failures of law enforcement and the cowardly Broward County Sheriff's Office which caused so many innocent lives to be lost.
We can do more as a nation, without removing the rights of those who've followed the law their entire lives.
The Second Amendment, for most, is non-negotiable. It ensures the First Amendment cannot be taken, and undoubtedly several million Americans would see this effort as being both treasonous and oppressive.
