Shocking news from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House "Front Lawn," confirmed by the Secret Service.
Initial reports suggest that the President is in Florida at the Mar-a-Lago resort, where he is safe.

NBC News' Geoff Bennett tweeted that the White House press corps is sheltered safely inside of the White House briefing room as a security precaution until the Secret Service gives the "all-clear" for their exit.
The premises are on lockdown - standard protocol during any breach of security, although this seems to be a single man who's shot himself, according to CNN.
According to the Secret Service's official Twitter, the gunman suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound near the White House's northern fence line.

The man may have jumped the fence, although we have no confirmation as to who the man is, or how he was able to get a firearm unto the property of the White House.

Vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the home of the President of the United States of America will be halted as well, says the Secret Service, as emergency medical responders treat the gunman from his injuries.
"We are aware of the incident," deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said. "The President has been briefed. I refer you to the Secret Service for any more information."
A spokeswoman for the Secret Service, Cathy Milhoan, has confirmed that the shooting was a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that no shots were fired by the Secret Service in the incident.

This is a breaking story, we will update as soon as we receive additional information from the White House as to whether or not this was an accident or an intentional shooting.
The President is safe, and the First Family is secured at this time.
