On Morning Joe on March 28, 2017, Evelyn Farkas, Obama’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, admitted that she helped spread classified information about Trump and his transition team throughout the federal government with the hopes that it would leak to the general public. She did this with other Obama loyalists who also shared the belief that they had information on Trump that would prove that Trump worked with the Russians.

Mika Brzezinski: You actually knew about this attempt to get and preserve information. And full transparency, were doing some work yourself.
Evelyn Farkas: Well I was urging my former colleagues and frankly speaking the people on the Hill. It was more aimed at telling the Hill people get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can before President Obama leaves the administration because I had a fear that somehow this information would disappear with the senior people who left. So it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy - that the Trump folks if they found out how we knew what we knew about their the staff, the Trump staff dealing with Russians, they would try to compromise those sources and methods. Meaning, we would no longer have access to that intelligence so I became very worried that not enough was coming out into the open and I knew there was more. We have very good intelligence on Russia. So then I had talked to some of my former colleagues and I knew that they were also trying to get information to the Hill.

Evelyn Farkas: Yeah. Well that’s why you have the leaking, people are worried.

When Evelyn mentions ‘those sources and methods’, it seems to imply that there was some method of intelligence gathering on the Trump transition staff – what Trump referred to in his tweet as ‘wiretapping’. This only proves Trump’s claim right again that there is an element of the Obama holdovers abusing intelligence gathering powers to attempt to stop Trump. This along with the unlawful unmasking of Trump transition team officials could build a substantial case against these officials for potential mishandling of classified information.
