A black Democratic state senator who once called for Trump to be assassinated now says she wants reparations for former slaves. Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal criticized her own party for not properly appreciating the black community. Chappelle-Nadal called out white Democrats in particular including Senator Claire McCaskill and said there is "no difference" between them and Republicans because both parties failed black people.

"Neither one of them give a heck about the black community, only the votes," she said at the Senate floor during a tax bill debate. Chappelle-Nadal said she was motivated by the calls and emails she has received from her constituents. "When I'm getting a single mother of three children calling me trying to find a place to live because they don’t have a place to live, that’s what’s on my mind today and every single day."
It's not just her constituents who are calling, other top Democratic and Republican senators have called for Chappelle-Nadal to resign. Friday, she said she refuses to resign and even says her family is owed it's due for helping make the state what it is today. "Boone County, Missouri, in Callaway County, Missouri — what my family contributed to making the state what it is today is incredible, and my family deserves way more than what it is getting today," she said.

Chappelle-Nadal had made a post on Facebook saying, "I hope Trump is assassinated!" and quickly deleted it but not before the word had spread. Several of her own Democratic peers including Senator Claire McCaskill criticized her for spreading hate with the post and said she should resign. I guess calling for the assassination of a U.S. president isn't enough to get you fired these days. Chappelle-Nadal will run for a third term in six months, she will be facing Republican nominee Josh Hawley, the Missouri attorney general.
