Germany – Merkel Confirms Current Iran Deal ‘Not Sufficient’ (Video)

Visiting German chancellor Ms Angela Merkel, congratulated for her election win by US President Donald Trump who welcomed her to the White House, agreed with the current US Administration that the Iran deal in place is ‘not sufficient’ to keep the nuclear ambitions of that nation in check.

Repeating what French President Macron had stated in Washington earlier this week, Ms Merkel confirmed that the current deal is "a first step that has contributed to slowing down their activities in this particular respect."

"But we also think from a German perspective that this is not sufficient in order to see to it that Iran's ambitions are curbed and contained."

"Europe and the United States ought to be in lock step on this,"

It is therefore starting to look that the US might not pull out, but rather want to re-negotiate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action which was signed by Tehran and six world powers including Germany and the United States. Mr Trump said he would decide what to do by 12 May.

Meanwhile the talks between Ms Merkel and Mr Trump were indeed much warmer and in a better atmosphere than the last time she visited, back in 2017.

Furthermore, the German Chancellor, who famously slipped out of a Brussels EC meeting last year during a break to get some French fries, had a cheeseburger and fries this time round in Washington, one more thing she and the US President have in common.
