Kansas - Two Sheriff's Deputies Shot Outside Courthouse

Kansas City Police say two Wyandotte County sheriff's deputies were shot near the county courthouse. One of those deputies has succumbed to their injuries and another is in critical condition. The shooting took place around 11:17 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Eighth Street and Ann Avenue.

So far the only details released surrounding the shooting is from Lt. Kelli Bailiff who says the deputies were transporting inmates to court when they were "overcome." Both deputies were taken to a local hospital where one was pronounced dead. A suspect was also shot in the incident and was taken to the hospital.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. The courthouse where the shooting took place is at 710 N Seventh Street. Police Department Chief Terry Zeigler says details are still unclear about exactly what happened.

The Fraternal Order of Police of Kansas City issued a statement saying, "We are praying for our friends at the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office, their families, friends, and our entire blue family. We are here for you all."
