The police were alerted to a call when a 29-year-old mother reported her young daughter was "unresponsive" and "cold to the touch" on Tuesday. Gwinnett County police arrived at the home of Devin Moon, 29, on Paxton Lane in Lilburn and found Moon's 2-year-old daughter was dead. At 2 years and 11 months old, the child only weighed 14 pounds.

Girls of the same age are typically between 26 and 38 pounds according to the CDC. When investigators interviewed Moon, she told them her daughter Reygan was born with medical problems that prevented her from gaining weight at a normal rate. An autopsy contradicted Moon's statement and found Reygan died of Malnutrition. Investigators also found no history of medical issues that would have led to the child's death.
Malnutrition is not the only way Moon neglected her daughter, according to police. Investigators say Moon worked as a dancer at a local nightclub and often left her daughter home alone and unattended for hours at a time. Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Jake Smith said, "During the investigation detectives found that she had been leaving the child to go work basically overnight shifts on a regular basis. So the child really was left at home alone for 10-12 hours most nights."

Moon has been arrested and charged with first-degree cruelty to children and felony murder. Moon remains in the custody of the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
