The London Bridge attack has triggered reactions of sorrow as some Londoners consoled themselves by making fun of a man who was pictured walking away from the chaos as he held tight to his pint of beer as an ironic symbol of boldness.
The epic television footage shows a man in a red top walking slowly with beer in his hand, crowds are also seen running away from the attack that claimed the lives of seven people.
The hilarious picture of the man was posted on Twitter by Howard Mannella, who tweeted : “People fleeing #LondonBridge but the bloke on the right isn’t spilling a drop. God Bless the Brits!” The comment received tens of thousands of retweets.
Social media users joked about London’s notoriously high prices. On Twitter, a user identified as Andrew Brooks said in response to the photo: “Evacuate? Well, OK. But this beer cost £6 a pint. I’m taking it with me.”
Some decided to take on U.S. newspaper headlines by mocking them, claiming that London was “reeling” or “under siege.”
Chris Addison is a renowned Actor-comedian who set out to encourage people to tweet ways in which they were reeling. The responses included some users saying that they’re going to IKEA for meatballs and maybe a rug, another user said they were off to the pub.
