Sex Offender Working As Basketball Coach Caught Sexting Children

A private basketball coach and registered sex offender who wasn't supposed to be in contact with children at all was actually giving lessons to them at the Roseville Sports Center.

The Roseville Police Department say they received a tip that 28 year old Melvin Gabriel Allen Flemings, of Citrus Heights, who was known to players and parents only as “Coach Allen” was a registered sex offender and was offering basketball lessons to underage teenagers.

During the investigation Roseville Detectives found that he had exchanged inappropriate sexual texts with some of his students.

Police say that Flemings was not an employee of the Roseville Sports Center, and he was arranging for children to meet him there for paid basketball lessons. Roseville City ordinances state that anyone could give sports lessons if they had a permit to do so, which Flemings did not.

Flemings is also a convicted sex offender for the past crime of “employing, coercing or using a minor in the production of obscene material”, where he's supposed to be registered as a sex offender and did not.

As part of the requirements of his conviction due to the victims being under the age of 16, state law prohibits Flemings from working with juveniles. He clearly violated this as well.

The Roseville City Police Department is now searching for any minor child who may have had contact with Flemings, and if parents find out their children did to email Detectice Darren Marks at [email protected] or call (916) 774-5000 with any information they may have.
