Following the US Weinstein scandal and the subsequent #MeToo-movement, there was arousal in Westminster (the UK’s parliamentary buildings) this week upon the revealing of a Whatsapp group for female parliamentary employees who warned each other that certain male members of said parliament were mostly ‘unable to keep their hands to themselves’ or were ‘not safe to get into a taxi with’.
Of course the British press had a field day with the news and started digging as to whom was meant in all these message.
Since yesterday, it has been revealed that at least one Minister is in, as the Brits say, ‘a spot of trouble’.
Conservative Tory minister Mr Mark Garnier, responsible for International Trade and a married father of three, had to admit some rather personal details. He regularly referred to his personal secretary as 'sugar t*ts' and admitted sending her out to go and buy sex toys (2 vibrators which he explained to her were for his wife and another assistant in the office).
Mr Garnier, trying probably to address the damage made it worse on himself thereafter. He admitted both deeds and said the incidents were “taken out of context”.
He claimed the usage of “sugar t*ts” was part of “an amusing conversation” and referenced the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, where it is used to describe an attractive woman.
As to the sex toys, Mr Garnier said he purchased vibrators with Ms Edmondson, his former secretary, at a Soho sex shop as part of “good humoured high jinks”.
A possible government reshuffle might be in order there for Prime Minsiter Theresa May as the next time Mr Garnier would be over in Brussels to further negotiate the terms of Brexit, you can be sure that no woman will want to be in the room with him and that he will get some embarrassing European press remarks over it.
Already the British tabloid papers are looking for a next victim.
