Road Rage: 8-Year-Old Girl Shot in DeKalb County

An 8-year-old girl was shot when two groups exchanged gunfire in DeKalb County on Tuesday.

Police said the incident started at around 9 a.m. in the 3000 block of Clifton Church Road when a group of teens in a car chased another group of teens in a white vehicle.

The white car then crashed into a black car. The first group of teens kept firing. The child happened to be inside the black car at the time and was hit in the buttocks.

The 8-year-old kid then is nothing more than just a bystander.

The people involved in the shooting incident left the scene. A man and a woman fled on foot.

Police spokesman Lt. Lonzy Robertson said the suspects fled on foot presumably into one of the neighborhoods. He said that they have officers in the area.

Authorities also said the shooting incident may be linked to car thefts. Robertson said they’ve had some situations of stolen vehicles in the area.

A witness identified as Wanda Scott said the child kept saying ‘I am going to die. I am going to die ‘as she was being rescued and attended to.

Scott said she took the child in from the car to her kitchen where she cleaned the wound, put pressure on it to stop the child from bleeding.

The girl was brought to a hospital with a non-life threatening wound.

Police recovered surveillance video from the BP Station up the street.
