U.S. Government Shuts Down Flat-Earther's Rocket Launch

A flat-earth conspiracy theorist made headlines recently when he announced he would be launching himself in his own homemade rocket. Now, "Mad" Mike Hughes will be stuck on planet earth after the United States government has intervened and shut down his rocket launch.

Hughes announced previously he would be launching himself in his own homemade rocket to a height of 1,800 feet (550 meters) above the Mojave Desert in California. The launch was scheduled to take place on November 25 but problems with his "motorhome/rocket launcher" and not having federal permits.

The launch was rescheduled but after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) found out about his plan due to an Associated Press report on Hughes. BLM has now shut down his launch plans which were set to take place on public lands. The AP report described how Hughes built his steam-powered rocket out of salvaged parts from his garage for a total cost of $20,000.

Hughes planned to launch the rocket with a motorhome he converted into a ramp. Once the rocket had launched, Hughes planned to ditch the rocket and parachute back to earth on a quarter-mile flight across the Arizona desert.

The launch was intended to be the first step in a long-term effort to fly high enough to photograph the "disc Earth" and prove that it is flat despite scientific evidence established over the last 2,500 years.

The Earth's curvature is slightly visible at around 35,000 feet altitude if you have at least a 60-degree field of view.

Wonder if he can get the permit and launch. The government is only fueling ideas by blocking this launch.

If all he needs is a few 35,000 feet to provide his point then there are likely 50,000 flights a day in the USA that do that for a lot less than $20,000.

This was just a media 15 min of fame STUNT.
