89-Year-Old Dies On The Way To Hospital After Ambulance Crashes

A terrible accident occurred while an 89-year-old man was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The RCMP says the ambulance was traveling to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday

The RCMP did not indicate what afflicted the patient to require an ambulance in the first place, but they did confirm he died as a result of the crash sometime after. The accident occurred on 101 near exit 23 in Waldeck, N.S. when the ambulance lost contact with the road and careened into a ditch.

Natasha Dantiste is an RCMP spokesperson and she said the man did not initially appear to be injured but his condition later deteriorated and he died as a result of the ambulance crash. A second ambulance arrived to at the scene of the crash to take the 89-year-old and two paramedics to the hospital.

When asked how the man died, Dantiste would not confirm when he died or how they knew it was as a result of the crash. "As far as being able to give the particulars on that, because it is still under investigation, unfortunately, I can't provide that at this time. But that information did come to the police," Dantiste said.

She also could not say if an autopsy was performed but the ambulance involved in the crash will be investigated.
