Hammond Teen’s Death Ruled Homicide, Body Found Face Down in Weeds

A ruling was issued on Thursday determining the death of a missing northwest Indiana boy whose body was found Wednesday afternoon in Gary as homicide.

At around 12:40 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person down in the 7700-block of West 9th Avenue in Gary, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield.

A report released by Westerfield and the Lake County coroner's office indicates that they found 17-year-old Dylan Morgan face down in the weeds with no apparent signs of life.

Officers found the body while Chad Koebcke and his fellow Local 150 Operating Engineers Union members were picketing a nearby business.

Majority of the locals also revealed that the remote location is often used as a dumping ground. "It's really disturbing," said Koebcke.

As revealed by Westerfield, Morgan had been reported missing from his hometown of Hammond, Indiana on Dec. 6. His death was ruled a homicide, but the nature of his wound was not revealed pending further studies.

The authorities are asking anyone with information to call Det. Kristopher Adams of the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit at (219) 755-3855 or the crime tip line at (866) 274-6347.
