Trump Slams Mainstream Media - No Coverage of Tax Bill

President Donald Trump’s tax cut plan may have won the votes, but the President is still unhappy with the way the mainstream media covered the issue. He took to Twitter to slam the news media on Wednesday for what he feels was a “demeaning” coverage of the Republicans’ tax code overhaul.

Trump posted on Twitter: “The Tax Cuts are so large and so meaningful, and yet the Fake News is working overtime to follow the lead of their friends, the defeated Dems, and only demean. This is truly a case where the results will speak for themselves, starting very soon. Jobs, jobs, jobs!”

In an earlier tweet, Trump also congratulated “all great Republicans who voted in favor of cutting your taxes.”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Congratulations to Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, Kevin Brady, Steve Scalise, Cathy McMorris Rodgers and all great House Republicans who voted in favor of cutting your taxes!</p>&mdash; Donald J. The President described the Tax Cut and Reform Bill as the “biggest in history.”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The United States Senate just passed the biggest in history Tax Cut and Reform Bill. If approved, there will be a News Conference at The White House at approximately 1:00 P.M.</p>&mdash; Donald J. The Senate approved a sweeping overhaul of the country’s tax code in a party-line vote early Wednesday. The House, which already passed the measure on Tuesday, is scheduled to vote again later today after some buzzer-beating changes in the Senate-approved bill.

There is practically no doubt that the House Republicans will pass the bill again later on Wednesday. It would mean then that the crucial legislation would be ready at President Trump’s desk by Christmas for his signing. It marks Trump’s and the Republicans’ first major legislative victory after failing to repeal the ObamaCare.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly declared that the tax-reform legislation is long overdue. They said the tax overhaul would boost U.S. economic growth, making the country more attractive to businesses.

The tax code reform would offer deep, permanent cuts to corporate tax rate with a significant drop from 35 percent to 21 percent. It would also deliver more modest and temporary cuts to individual tax rates. The bill will also scrap or limit many tax breaks, including the state and local tax deduction.

Anticipating that the House will easily approve the final bill, White Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders already announced that the White House will sponsor a “bill passage event.” The event is more of a mini celebration, and not signing ceremony which will also take place at another date.
