FBI’s new director Christopher Wray recently reassigned one of the agency’s top lawyers, James Baker, to a different role. It’s something Wray can perfectly do as the bureau’s chief. His predecessor, the ousted James Comey, however, have something to say about that move- or to be more precise disagree with, and even criticize Wray for. It’s an unusual move by Comey that raised not a few eyebrows.

Comey rarely comments directly on such matters. But in Baker’s case, Comey took to Twitter to let his sentiments known to the public. Comey wrote: “Sadly, we are now at a point in our political life when anyone can be attacked for political gain. James Baker, who is stepping down as FBI General Counsel, served our country incredibly well for 25 years & deserves better. He is what we should all want our public servants to be.”

It was the first time Comey directly commented on FBI’s activities since he testified in the Senate in June, a month after Trump fired him.

The dig against Wray’s move and even against President Trump is pretty obvious, a departure from the usually coy stance Comey takes on many pressing issues. However, his moral high ground posturing is exploding on his face as people point out his inconsistencies and even hypocrisy on the matter. Some even call what Comey’s trying to pull off as a case of the “leaker defending a leaker.”

House Republicans are investigating allegations that Baker leaked information to David Corn, a reporter for the Democrat-loving Mother Jones. Corn happened to be the first to report on the Trump and Russia dossier. Many could not help but stress the irony of Comey defending a leaker since he once admitted to being a big-time leaker himself. Comey, of course, revealed that he leaked information on Trump through a friend to the Trump-hating New York Times to prompt a special counsel.

People reacted on social media to call out how both empty and ironic at the same time Comey’s defense of his former colleague Baker.

One of the funniest but on point reaction said: “Leaker defends leaker. Whole lotta leakin’ goin’ on.”

Leaker defends leaker.

Whole lotta leakin' goin' on. https://t.co/hCCLfRrsu4
— 🎄🎅🏽 Annie ❤️📜🇺🇸 99% Swamp = 100% Fed Up (@bloodless_coup) December 23, 2017

Another was sarcastic, throwing obvious references also to the inconsistencies and hypocrisy of the Clintons. The social media user wrote: “Also, we’re at the point where people can get off Scott free for having classified material on a bathroom email server, have meetings on tarmacs, and sell U.S. uranium holdings to Russia, all for partisan gain. You brainless simp.”

Also, we're at the point where people can get off scott free for having classified material on a bathroom email server, have meetings on tarmacs, and sell U.S. uranium holdings to Russia, all for partisan gain.

You brainless simp. https://t.co/J4zP7pjWqB
— FilmLadd (@FilmLadd) December 23, 2017

There are also those who minced no words indirectly slamming Comey. One posted: “Corrupt Comey stole the FBI’s own memo to send to his friend so he could lead them to the New York Times to get a special counsel. Absolute corruption.”

Corrupt Comey stole the FBI's own memos to send to his friend so he could leak them to the New York Times to get a special council. Another with a similar punch said: “In a related story, Comey admitted in open testimony to leaking information on the president through a friend to the New York Times to prompt a special counsel. Because he's non-partisan and stuff.”

In a related story, Comey admitted in open testimony to leaking information on the president through a friend to the New York Times to prompt a special council. Maybe Comey is better at either being quiet or playing coy, because “honesty” does not suit him as the truth has a way of coming back to hit him hard.
