Watch Dubai's World Record New Year Laser Show

Dubai celebrated the New Year on Sunday in great style with a spectacular midnight laser show at their pride tower Burj Khalifa which happens to be the tallest in the world.

The 826-meter or 2,716-foot tower was lit up as the clocked struck midnight with United Arab Emirates’ colors- green, white, black and red colors. There was also a portrait of UAE founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan and “2018.” It also bore the greetings “Happy New Year From UAE.” Towards the end, it also showed the text “Year Of ZAYED.”

The real show starts at past the 34:00 mark in the video.

Dubai’s massive laser show aimed to break a Guinness World Record.

The security was tights as hundreds of thousands of people watched the display. Roads to the city center were sealed off.

There were first aid stations on stand-by in the area, but the festivities passed off without incident.

Dubai had always celebrated holiday revelries with the magnificent fireworks display to ring in the new year, but to welcome 2018, they outdid themselves.

Some citizens and social media users were looking however for fireworks that were not existent this year. The champagne appeared to have been skipped this year, too.

There were also some concerns raised that the laser light display only covered the front tower and not the back. People who had a back view of the tower said the government should have made light it in a 360-degree fashion for everyone to have a chance to witness the fantastic sight.

Still, many also expressed admiration for a “stunning spectacle of art”, and for an incredible and breath-taking light show. Many citizens and tourists alike also thanked Dubai for the show.
