With winter storm Grayson fast approaching the North Eastern US, airlines are reporting thousands of flight cancellations as disruptions are expected to become greater throughout the day.
Most of the cancellations so far have been at Boston’s Logan International Airport, where some 70% of flights have been cancelled, leaving thousands stranded. In the New York area, there were cancellations in LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark.

American Airlines, Southwest, Delta, United and Jetblue have by now all issued warning to US flyers planning trips on 4 and 5 January. The number of cancellations is expected to grow even further.
Spokesman Ross Feinstein of US carrier American Airlines said that all their aircraft would be moving out of Boston Logan airport in anticipation of the storm: “We’re looking proactively so our customers aren’t in mid-journey when their flight could potentially be canceled.”
Southwest Airlines is taking similar action. Mr. Chris Mainz commented: “Southwest Airlines is proactively tracking Winter Storm Grayson and making strategic adjustments to our flight schedule to ensure the safety of our employees and customers.”

According to FlightAware, at the time of writing, some 3,500 flights had already been canceled today, of which 3,000 in the US alone.
