Georgia Mother and Boyfriend Arrested - Abused to Death and Burned 4-Year-Old Girl

A young girl was found dead with severe burns in a mobile home in Sumpter Township on New Year’s Day. Now, the mother of the child and her boyfriend have been arrested by authorities for the said shocking death of the 4-year-old girl.

Candice R. Diaz, 24, and Brad E. Fields, 28, were taken into custody this afternoon near Lake Park, Ga. by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The young child was identified as Gabrielle Barrett. The police responded to a call on New Year’s Day and tried to help revive an unresponsive girl at a home in the Rawsonville Woods Mobile home Community.

The police said then that officers arrive to see family members administering CPR to the child. The officers also noticed that the poor girl suffered from severe burns about her extremities. The girl was then brought by an ambulance to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor where she was pronounced dead.

The troubling thing is it was not a death due to sickness, accident or any other natural means. The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide with evidence of multiple traumatic injuries and battered-child syndrome. The disturbing finding was the 4-year-old innocent child suffered multiple injuries, at multiple sites, at multiple ages.

Police launched a manhunt for the mother and her boyfriend leading to their arrest on Tuesday. The pair has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, and torture. Fields has previously been charged and is a habitual offender.

Other than arrest …

Whats the GA. Connection?

Both Fields and Diaz reportedly suffer from untreated mental illness, been living in a MHP up north for years.

Washtenaw County is in Michigan and they were headed to Fla. and caught within miles of the GA/FLA state line.
