Manhunt for Florida Thug who Beat and Forced 3-Year-Old into a Hot Oven

Law enforcement in the crime-ridden city of DeLand, Florida say they're engaged in an active manhunt for a suspect that brutally assaulted a toddler.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says they received a call from a state investigator with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to arrive at the home of 45-year-old Terry L. May, of Lenox Court in Deland, Florida.

Once Deputies arrived at the home, they were met by DCF investigators and family members of Terry L. May including his mother.

Investigators with the DCF told Deputies that the three-year-old girl who lives at the residence was sent by ambulance to a nearby hospital with multiple injuries, all caused at the hands of May.

Sheriff's Detectives then went to the hospital to speak with the young girl, who had visibly barbaric injuries all across her body, according to CBS.

Included in those visible injuries were extensive abrasions on her ear, several contusions on her body, swelling on the top of her head and forehead, a 6-inch scar across her back, as well as abrasions and lacerations on her feet, hands, and legs

The innocent child told the Volusia County Detectives that May both violently beat and choked her, hit her with a belt, and forced her into a hot oven which caused severe burns.

Police were outraged and shocked that something so horrific could happen to a child so young, and immediately put out an all points bulletin to apprehend May on a $50,000 child abuse warrant.

Authorities returned to May's home to question his relatives, who unsurprisingly chose to proclaim that May did nothing wrong.

"He did not beat her and he didn't put her in no oven. That's a lie," said May's mother, Louise Douglas. "He did nothing but take care of her. He's not a bad person, that's my son. I'm not saying it because he's my son, that's the truth."

Despite Louise Douglas' rhetoric of defense, officers had pictures of the grotesque injuries suffered to the child.

The images are graphic, and the hospital states the trauma the child endured is consistent with the claims she'd made.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote on the Sheriff's Department Facebook page that May is the "SCUMBAG of the Week", and is asking for the public with assistance in the ongoing manhunt to find this sickening criminal.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 386-248-1777. Anonymous tips can also be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS.
