A citizen in Hurlock, Maryland made a shocking discovery Wednesday while collecting recyclables along Bobtown Road.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the citizen found a total of 38 grenades on the side of the road and nine of them were life.
Maryland State Police, Dorchester County Police and the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
The responding officers used safe procedures to detonate three of the live grenades at the scene. The other six live grenades were counter charged at a local landfill.
According to officials, another 19 grenades had a fuse but no explosive while 10 were inert.
The source of the grenades is unknown and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Maryland State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad at 410-859-7152 or the Maryland State Police – Easton Barrack at 410-822-3101.
