The beloved star and veteran actor John Mahoney, known for his role as Martin Crane in the hit TV show Frasier, has passed away. The 77-year-old actor was known as the father of Frasier and Niles for 11 seasons.
His performance in Frasier earned him a SAG award and two Emmy nominations. Mahoney also had roles in "Flipped," "Barton Fink," "Say Anything" and "Hot in Cleveland." He worked in film and television for over three decades and his voice has become a familiar sound for many American households.
The casting director of Frasier, Jeff Greenberg, said on Twitter, "I’ve not known a kinder man nor a more brilliant actor,” Greenberg said. “We were all blessed to have spent 11 glorious years together."

Mahoney also worked in theater and his performance in "The House of Blue Leaves" earned him a Tony award in 1986 for 'Best Featured Actor.' He was in the care of hospice at the time of his death.
