Redmond Gerard performed a perfect backside triple-edged to the roar of the crowd in the intense men's snowboarding slopestyle final. Canadian Maxence Parrot took the silver medal with his final run passing the runner-up Mark McMorris.

Gerard was the youngest in the men's competition and landed a perfect backside triple cork 1440 on his final run blowing the crowd away. Parrot also landed the technical trick during his same run but judges picked Gerard as the winner.

Gerard was in 10th place leading up to his final run after bailing on the difficult trick two times previously. When he entered the final round he managed to land it and placed 1st.

Norway was disappointed at their loss and had three riders in the competition. Two country's riders, Staale Sandbech and Marcus Kleveland, placed fourth and sixth respectively.
