London – Rapes Rise By 20% In A Year

Though London and the rest of the UK look bent on exiting the EU in 2019, at this moment it is still part of the 28-member nation bloc and carries the title of being the largest city in that 550 million people part of the world.

However, as of late it carries other titles as well.

According to crime statistics released earlier this week, London has seen a 20% increase in rape reports in a year (according to figures collected by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, there were a whopping 7,613 reported rapes in the year to January, compared to 6,392 over the previous 12 months).

Sir Craig Mackey, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police: “It is not as simple as saying this is increased confidence.”

“Of course that plays a part and faith in the process, but there is something going on with sexual offending in London that we don’t fully understand. We see the end of it but we don’t understand the causes.”

Meanwhile, the famous Mayor of London, Mr. Sadiq Khan, wants to reassure the public by saying he has committed to generating an extra $130m for the police forces in 2018.

Doesn’t really add up to what the police union is claiming though. They warn that their numbers are due to fall to 30,000 by April. In comparison to 2010, there are now 114 fewer police station front counters and no less than 120 fewer police buildings.
