‘Beast From The East’ Death Toll Rises In Europe

As sub-zero temperatures continue to pounce Europe, the death toll from the harsh weather rose to 60 today. In Poland alone, some 23 people have died.

Many countries face disruption on the roads because of the wintery conditions. The unusual weather system dubbed ‘Beast from the East’ has lashed out from Eastern Europe (where Bulgaria and Romania were particularly hard hit) until the Mediterranean (the Spanish city of Santander saw snow for the first time in decades).

Ireland and Scotland have almost come to a standstill with all flights from Cork and Dublin airport suspended.

Most of the dead victims fell in Poland, where a lot of poor people slept outside and froze to death at -15°C during the night. Also in Eastern Europe, seven people died in Slovakia, six in the Czech Republic and five in Lithuania.

The temperatures are predicted to normalize as from Sunday and we are sure many in Europe are glad it is over.
