A 45-year-old man in Hyderabad, India has surrendered himself to the police after he chopped off the right hand of his son between the wrist and the elbow. The incident occurred when Mohammad Qayyum Qureshi caught his son watching an adult film Sunday night but when he tried to take his son's phone he ran away.
Qureshi's son, Mohammad Khalid Qureshi, returned home later that night but the next morning the pair got in a fight and that is when he chopped off his son's hand. The older Qureshi is a butcher by trade in the Jalpalli colony in Pahadishareef near the old city. His 18-year-old son works as an assistant at a local cable TV provider.
Pahadishareef police inspector P Lakshmikanth Reddy said, "The father has been booked under section 307 of Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) and taken into custody. The son has been rushed to a private hospital nearby." Police say Qureshi has four children, two of them are boys and Khalid is the older of the pair.
The teen recently purchased his own phone and used it to watch movies and pornography against his father's wishes. Inspector Reddy added, "On Monday morning, both father and son quarreled on the same issue again. In a fit of anger, Qayuum picked up the butcher’s knife and chopped off Khalid’s right hand."
"Hearing the son’s screams, the other family members came and immediately took him to a nearby hospital, where the doctors said the hand was 90% severed and the chances of restoring it are bleak."
