Last year’s Miss Texas Margana Wood might be wearing a purse next to her tiara and sash, but that doesn’t mean she’s like any other beauty queen.
The girl from Houston gladly participated in the 60th annual Sweetwater Jaycees Rattlesnake Roundup at the Nolan County Coliseum in Sweetwater, Texas, and jumped into a pit filled with rattlesnakes without hesitation.
After an adjustment moment, Miss Wood wowed the crowds by gutting and skinning a snake (at all times she wore her tiara and looked absolutely flawless). Now that’s what we call a Southern Belle.

The Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup is the world's largest and has been around since 1958.
The Jaycee family started the Roundup to ease other ranchers’ fears about rattlesnakes endangering their livestock, workers, and their families.
Y’all come buy a turkey leg or a sausage on a stick from me at the firefighter stall at the #rattlesnakeroundup today!

Ever since then, the annual roundup has gathered fame and become a major economic engine for the small community.
Sweetwater, a town of only 11,000 residents, gets a surplus of $8.4 million in economic activity every year thanks to the event and the gathering is very special to the town’s identity.
